Life is what you make it

I have been thinking about this saying, that life is what you make it.  This saying which is so simple, and we may hear stated so often, yet it really is deeply wise. I wonder if it is one of the deepest of truths of all.

Life, meaning our reality and the world and universe around us, is what we make it out to be.

Notice how it is up to us to decide.  Not anyone else.

Life is how you make it.  Not your friends or your parents or schools or society or anybody else.

Your life is what you make it as.  The decisions are all up to you.  And within those decisions come a lot of power and freedom, and also responsibility.

You have the power to be the creator of your reality.  Or, you can give that power away!  It’s still up to you.

Too often in my own life I let others determine how my life experiences were being made. I worried about what others would think, or I viewed myself with a low opinion. But I didn’t realize that it was my own thoughts which were determining how my life was going.

I turned a lot of my life around by turning my thoughts around. By choosing thoughts that I felt good about. Because I realized one thing – that life is what you make it, and I was determined to make something good out of it.

So, what are you making life out to be, in this present moment?  That is the question to ask, in each and every moment.  What life are you making?

  • Eric, I also believe that life is what you make it but I also believe “If you believe it you can receive it”. Whatever you want out of life believe it and it’s yours!

  • It’s those nasty “should”s… the little voices inside our own minds that we’ve picked up over the years that tell us what we ought to do with our lives that trip us up. The hardest thing in life is figuring out who you are after a lifetime of listening to other people’s opinions on who you *should* be. But once we are able to break free of those chains, that is when we are able to start creating the kind of life experiences that we most want for ourselves, and once we start doing that we implicitly encourage everyone around to the same.

And I absolutely agree about the beliefs — *everything* starts with our beliefs. Conscious or not, it is our beliefs that are the driving force behind everything that we experience in life. If we are trying to make changes in our lives, we have to start with our beliefs about what it is we want to change. Before any change can happen, we must first believe that it is possible, believe that we deserve it, and then believe that it *will* happen. In the words of Wayne Dyer, “I’ll see it when I believe it.”
